Friends of Dunbar School Parent Teacher Organization (FODSPTO):

Friends of Dunbar School (FODS) is a registered non-profit Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) whose mission is to encourage academic achievement and experiential learning at Dunbar Elementary through support of enrichment programs and support of district teachers and staff. Any stakeholder of the school (parents, staff, teachers, neighbors, community) is encouraged to become active in FODS-PTO.  The organization has an executive board of volunteers but all monthly general meetings are open to ANYONE who wants to participate.  In fulfillment of the mission, FODS-PTO has, in recent years, provided the following:

·         new computer lab equipment

·         support for art, garden, and science enrichment programs

·         crucial educational software

·         salaries for teacher’s aides

·         teacher’s stipends to help offset their personal classroom costs

FODS-PTO also organizes and facilitates a number of school events during the year, including: teacher appreciation luncheons, movie night, bingo night, 4th/5th grade father-daughter dance, 4th/5th grade mother-son event, Harvest Festival, Halloween Carnival, Pixie Corner, Garden Anniversary & Work Party, and at least one ‘larger’ fundraiser (please note that after 10 years, we are putting the Moondance on hiatus this year- some new and exciting things to come). We’ll send a calendar home soon.

Nearly all of the events and programs benefit every child at Dunbar School and are only possible through generous donations made to the PTO. 

We also heavily encourage you to be involved as a volunteer in the classroom and at school or PTO events.
